HISTORY
SAN DONATO IN POGGIO ...
T
he village of San Donato in Poggio has Roman origins and until 1033 it is remembered as a castle. Of the castle there is not today that part of the walls, the two access doors (Porta Fiorentina and Porta Senese) and some towers including the bell tower called "Campanone" and "Torrino" rising to dominion of the valley.
Even today, the village still retains its original structure with the narrow streets that bend in the houses. The main square overlooks the Renaissance Palazzo Malaspina and the Gothic church of Santa Maria della Neve.
